Concurrent Enrollment
Concurrent enrollment allows students to be concurrently enrolled in high school and community college. If you are a strong student and want to challenge yourself, concurrent enrollment may be ideal for you. There are specific rules to which all students must adhere. The process for enrollment is as follows:
High School Students
1. They need to submit an application through community college website.
2. When they receive their ID number, they will also receive their appointment date to register online.
3. If they plan to take Math or English, they need to register for the assessment test online after they receive their ID number.
4. There will be a hold placed on their records for the concurrent enrollment form until they submit the form to the Admissions and Records Office (with original signatures). Students will not be able to enroll online in classes until this form is submitted. This form needs to be approved/signed by Ms. Lazer, the principal.
5. Once the hold has been removed, they can access the online system to try to add like anyone else on, or after their appointment time. If enrolled, they then pay their fees online or at the Business Office.
6. If the class if full, they can attempt to get in by attending the first session of the class and requesting an add permit from the instructor. They must submit that add permit to Admissions and Records (it is their responsibility)
Some benefits of taking concurrent enrollment:
1. It is an excellent way to get ahead, so that when you get to college, you will already have some courses completed.
2. It is an excellent way to show colleges that you are ready for college work, and helps you be competitive in the college admissions process.
3. It is a great opportunity to see what college courses are like, and to try out a course in the major you are planning on entering.
4. There are some courses that will count for college credit and high school credit. For these courses, bring your official college transcript to the Principal or College Counselor once the course is completed, and it will be added to your transcript.
Concurrent Enrollment Tips
Remember! These are real college courses, and you are establishing your college transcript. If you do well in the course, that good grade will go with you to college. However, if you do badly, that bad grade will also go with you to college. So be sure you are ready to put the time in to be successful in the course. If you decide to drop the course, you must make sure you formally drop it with the college. Don’t just stop going to class, or you will end up with a Fail on your report card!
