Scholarships
 
Scholarships are an excellent source of funds for paying for college.  There are thousands of scholarships out there for everything and anything imaginable.  It's just a matter of having the time and patience to look for scholarships that apply to you and having the commitment to complete scholarship applications, which can be very tedious and time consuming.  
Here are a few of the scholarships that I have recently come across.  I have divided them according to application deadline, meaning that whatever month it is under is when the deadline is to apply for that scholarship.

KFC Colonel's Scholars Program: Awards up to $20,000. Do you have perseverance, entrepreneurial drive and financial need with the desire to get a college education at an accredited public institution in your state? The rules of entry and complete information regarding this scholarship program are posted on the KFC website at http://www.kfcscholars.org. You may apply after 2/08/12.

D.R.E.A.M.S. Scholarship – awards $5000.  Students must demonstrate academic excellence, participation in community service and high moral standards.  www.dreamsrun.org
 
Write a Winning Essay: Award is $1000. High school seniors, juniors and students currently registered at post-secondary institutions can write an essay to qualify for the B. Davis Scholarship. There is no age requirement for this non-academic scholarship. Be sure, however, to include your name, where you are currently attending school, and what your future academic plans are. An essay of less than 1,000 words is required on a topic designated on the website. The current essay topic is to discuss how your education has contributed to who you are today and how it will affect who you will become. Your submissions must be sent via email at awards@studentawardsearch.com. Deadline is May 28, 2012.
 
SunTrust Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes: Award is $1000. The SunTrust scholarship sweepstakes is an easy way for students to possibly win a $1,000 scholarship by just completing an entry form. You may complete the on line form at their website or send in a 3×5 index card as outlined on the website. Only one entry is allowed per person per month. The money may be used at any accredited college or private career school. For additional info, visit http://suntrusteducation.com/sweeps. Deadline is May 11, 2012
 
Tylenol Scholarship Program: Tylenol is awarding $250,000 in scholarships to students pursuing degrees in healthcare who are committed to a future of caring for others and who excel in academics, leadership and community service. 40 applicants will receive up to $10,000.

Big Dig Scholarship: Awards up to $3,000. Can you write an effective essay about future buried treasure? High school seniors who will be entering their first year of college in Fall 2012, as well as first and second year college students may apply. You must submit an essay of 500-1,000 words describing what particular item you could bury today for your future relatives to discover 200 years from now that would have such immense value that it would end all of their financial problems for good. Everything’s Just Ducky!Awards up to $5,000. Can you imagine yourself wearing duct tape to the prom? If you can pull it off with style and pizazz, you just might qualify for a Stuck at Prom Duct Tape College Scholarship. The Stuck at Prom scholarship requires applicants to create their prom outfits, or accessorize them, with items made of duct tape. A photo of the couple wearing their items should be submitted to qualify for the award. There are also categories for accessories embellished by duct tape. Live Poets Society of New Jersey: Awards between $150-$1,000. All U.S. high school students are eligible to enter up until May 31st of their senior year. Poems must be 20 lines or less, unpublished, the sole work of the entrant, and not be entered in any other concurrent contest. Only ONE poem per poet may be entered into each contest.  http://www.highschoolpoetrycontest.com/
